Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre is an adult and community education organisation and neighbourhood house. As a not for profit, community owned and managed organisation, we offer many life long learning courses and activities at affordable prices. We are also committed to working with local people to improve community wellbeing.

We offer small classes, qualified and experienced teachers, on-site childcare and nationally accredited certificates.

We are located in attractive, recently built premises in the Glenroy Community Centre. You are welcome to visit us to learn more about us. Glenroy is an older suburb in the north west corner of Moreland city Council, about 22 kms from the Melbourne CBD.

Our program areas include:

  • ESL, including Northern AMEP classes
  • Adult literacy and numeracy
  • Computers
  • Health and Fitness programs
  • VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied learning)

Men’s Shed

The Glenroy Men’s Shed operates on Tuesday afternoons between 12 noon and 3 pm. The facility, located within the Glenroy scout hall on Mott Reserve, comprises a fitted out woodwork workshop, modern amenities and access to the hall and kitchen when required. Aimed at men over 45, the program provides socialisation, an ability to learn skills and exchange ideas and works on community projects in partnership with other agencies.

Art Class

Art Class 2012

Classes run each semester.
No experience necessary other than a willingness to have fun and explore your creativity in a friendly social atmosphere.

When: Friday  1.00 to 4.00 pm. Classes run for 8 weeks throughout the year.

Where: Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre

 Cost: $90.00 full or $70.00 concession

Guitar for Beginners

Guitar for Beginners

No previous experience necessary although you will need to bring your own guitar. If you don’t own one, you may be able to borrow one from a friend or hire one. The course will cover basic theory and practice including chords, scales, strumming and picking.

When: Wednesdays ~ 6.00 to 8.00pm for 6 weeks
A six week class will commence from the second week in term 2 if numbers are sufficient.

Moreland Volunteer Training (MVT)

Moreland Volunteer Training is a series of quality workshops and courses designed for staff, volunteers and committee members of Moreland clubs, community groups and non-profit organisations. Moreland City Council and Moreland Neighbourhood Houses are working together to provide your group with access to skill development opportunities at a subsidised cost.

Safe Food Handling

Conducted by Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre RTO 3831

The course will include the following modules from Certificate 11 in Hospitality Operations (SIT20307)

Implement Food Safety Procedures (SITXFSAOO1A)

Follow Workplace Hygiene Procedures(SITXOHSOO2A)

*Minimum of Level 2 English is required

When:  day and evening class to be run in term 4 dates tbc

Where: Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre, 5B Cromwell Street, Glenroy.

Cost: Volunteers $25/Concession $100/ Full fee $120

Places  fill quickly but you can go on our waiting list for the next sessions, we usually run this course 3 or 4 times  a year.

Walk and Talk

When: Monday 10 -11am Friday 10 -11am
Cost: Annual contribution to tea and coffee
Group leader: Ring Tracey to enrol
Where: The group gathers at 5B Cromwell Street, and agrees on the days route.

Put on your walking shoes and join us for an hour long walk followed by a cuppa. The group walks quite briskly, but will accommodate less sprightly walkers. Keep fit and happy in all kinds of weather.

Tai Chi for Health

When: Thursday 3.30 to 4.30pm (except school holidays)

Cost: $8.00 or $6.00 concession.

Where: Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre childcare

This gently exercise helps improve symptoms of arthritis, diabetes and anxiety, reduces stress, improves balance, strength, flexibility & confidence. James is an experienced Tai Chi teacher. The class has some regular participants. We also invite new people to make sure this local class keeps going! Wear flat soled shoes and comfortable clothing.

Evening Yoga

When: Monday 6 – 7.15pm  Thursday 6 – 7.15pm
Cost: $8.00 or $6.00 concession.
Where: Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre, Occasional Childcare Be there be

Iyengar Yoga focuses on developing strength and flexibility, good posture and a relaxed state of mind. The teacher gives detailed instructions so that people do not injure themselves. People work at their own pace. This class usually has eight to ten participants, some experienced and some beginners. All new people are welcome. Mats, blocks and belts provided. Wear comfortable clothes.
